Wallem-Westminster Closing Ceremony With SAES

The partnership between Wallem-Westminster and San Antonio Elementary School (SAES) culminated in a memorable Closing Ceremony held on October 10, 2025, highlighting a shared commitment to maritime education and youth development under the Adopt a Ship Program.

In her heartfelt Opening Remarks, the new principal, Ms. Mariel Y. Castillo, expressed her gratitude to Wallem-Westminster and Adopt a Ship International for connecting their learners to the world beyond the classroom—a world of oceans, ships, and global trade. She emphasized how the program opens young minds to new possibilities, inspiring the next generation to dream big, explore, and value the maritime industry as an essential pillar of global progress.

Representing Wallem-Westminster, Capt. Eduardo Labanta and Chief Engineer Jesse Noel Lorenzo shared their appreciation for being part of the Adopt a Ship Program, recognizing it as a valuable platform for promoting maritime literacy among children. They expressed their joy in becoming channels of knowledge and inspiration, helping the youth appreciate the vital role of seafarers in connecting nations.

Sir George Hoyt, IMO Maritime Goodwill Ambassador, delivered a captivating message that deepened the learners’ understanding of the maritime world. By illustrating the vast difference between a car’s engine and that of a ship, he highlighted the enormous scale and importance of the shipping industry. He reminded everyone that without shipping, half of the world would freeze and the other half would starve, underscoring the indispensable role of seafarers and maritime trade in sustaining global life.

Adding an interactive touch, Chief Officer Jeffrey Aldas engaged the students by asking thought-provoking questions, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm among the young audience. His approach made the learning experience more lively and relatable.

The program concluded with Ms. Michelle M. Padolina, SAES Assistant Principal, who delivered the Closing Remarks, expressing deep appreciation to Adopt a Ship International and Wallem-Westminster for their unwavering support and dedication. She acknowledged the partnership as a meaningful bridge that connects the school community to the maritime world.

A photo opportunity and short video clip wrapped up the event, conveying heartfelt thanks to Adopt a Ship International (AASI) and Wallem-Westminster for their continued commitment to shaping young minds.

The Wallem-Westminster Closing Ceremony with SAES was more than just an event—it was a celebration of learning, partnership, and purpose.
