SPCES Launching Ceremony with Crossworld

On September 13, 2024, San Pedro Central Elementary School (SPCES) hosted the second run of the Adopt a Ship program in collaboration with Crossworld. The event was graced by Crossworld delegates led by President Capt. Levy Capayas and Vice President Ms. Rochelle Reyes, together with Mr. Asher Pasco, Education Program Supervisor of SDO San Pedro. They were joined by the AASI Team and the SPCES community led by School Head Mrs. Jodelyn Labad. In her opening remarks, Mrs. Labad warmly welcomed the guests and highlighted the program’s value in sparking students’ interest in maritime education. A lively cultural dance performance by SPCES students followed, setting a vibrant tone for the celebration. Capt. Capayas inspired students by sharing motivational stories from his seafaring career, emphasizing both the vast opportunities within the maritime industry and the crucial role of shipping in global trade and daily life. Mr. Pasco expressed gratitude for the strong partnership with SDO San Pedro and commended the program for enriching students’ geographical knowledge while broadening their perspective on maritime career paths. C/O Jeffrey Aldas provided a detailed overview of the program’s objectives and implementation phases, after which students enthusiastically participated in engaging activities such as paper boat-making, fun games, and an interactive Q&A session that encouraged curiosity about seafaring. To deepen their learning, students also received 2x3-meter world maps to track their adopted ship’s movements, enhancing their understanding of geography and global shipping routes. The program concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Denis Portes, who expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support and cooperation of all participants. A group photo captured the day’s success, symbolizing the beginning of meaningful educational sessions that will further inspire students to explore the maritime world and future career opportunities.
