The partnership between OSM Thome and the schools San Vicente Elementary School (SNVES) and Sampaguita Elementary School (SVES) culminated in a meaningful Closing Ceremony on October 8, 2025, marking the successful conclusion of another cycle of the Adopt a Ship International (AASI) Program. The event celebrated collaboration, learning, and the inspiring connection between seafarers and young learners.

Mr. Mandy N. Buenconsejo, Recruitment and Training Officer, expressed his gratitude for being part of the AASI Program. He shared stories about the sacrifices and challenges of life at sea, and how the curiosity and enthusiasm of students—especially their questions about maritime -serve as inspiration to continue nurturing young minds toward possible maritime careers.
Sir George Hoyt, IMO Maritime Goodwill Ambassador, underscored the vital role of shipping in daily life. He invited the learners to define “team,” reminding them that every team has a captain to lead, and every member has a responsibility to fulfill. He shared that he finds more joy in giving, likening it to the selfless service of seafarers who dedicate their lives to keeping the world moving.
A poster-making activity highlighted the creativity and learning of the students, followed by the judging and awarding of winners. The program included the judging of posters, awarding of winners and certificates, and a thank-you message from C/O Jeffrey Aldas.
In her Closing Remarks, Ms. Edgenel V. Viterbo, Araling Panlipunan Coordinator, expressed gratitude to OSM Thome and AASI for their continued support, emphasizing the program’s positive impact on students’ awareness, aspirations, and appreciation of maritime life.
The OSM Thome Closing Ceremonies at SNVES and SVES were more than just celebrations—they were affirmations of hope, partnership, and shared vision. Through the Adopt a Ship Program, young learners were able to set sail on a voyage of discovery, learning that the maritime world is not distant, but deeply connected to everyday life.
As the ceremonies drew to a close, one message resonated clearly: education, when anchored in purpose and partnership, becomes a vessel that carries dreams beyond the shore. The collaboration among schools, seafarers, and maritime leaders continues to inspire the next generation to look beyond the horizon—with courage to dream, and determination to navigate their own course toward a brighter future.
