Though held later than planned, the Adopt-A-Ship (AAS) Program Launching at RCES still turned out successful and meaningful.
School Head Mrs. Emlyn Gazzingan expressed her gratitude, saying the program raises maritime awareness and gives students a deeper appreciation of the industry.
Students shared how AAS helped them learn more about geography, shipping, and the importance of the maritime industry. They enjoyed the activities, with one happily saying, “Ang saya!”
Teachers also testified that while the program was challenging amidst their busy schedules, it became worthwhile for the students. Some even admitted they, too, are learning, while commending the partner-officers for answering questions with love and concern.
Mr. Alfonso Pablo Jr., Executive Director of Homer Foundation, Inc., explained how shipping works and emphasized the role of Filipino seafarers in the economy. Using the STOP, LOOK, LISTEN pattern, he urged students to pause from usual subjects, discover more about maritime, and listen to new knowledge.
Capt. Joffrey Laguatan, Senior Fleet Human Resource Director, inspired the students with his seafaring experience, reminding them that while the sea is not always calm, seafaring is a noble and globally respected profession. His Q&A session sparked more student interest.
C/OFF Jeffrey Aldas, AASI Managing Coordinator, revisited the program implementation and engaged the students in a quiz-bee style activity.
The program ended with Ms. AngeliqueHatulan’s words of encouragement and assurance of support for the AAS initiative.
Though delayed, the launching sailed smoothly like a ship finding calm waters. As RCES students journey through AAS, may they set their sails toward knowledge, anchor their values in discipline, and steer their dreams with courage toward the wide horizons of the maritime world.
