SPCES Launching Ceremony with Crossworld

The second run of the Adopt a Ship program at San Pedro Central Elementary School was launched on September 13, 2024, in collaboration with Crossworld. It was attended by Crossworld delegates led by President Capt. Levy Capayas and Vice President Ms. Rochelle Reyes, alongside Education Program Supervisor of SDO San Pedro, Mr. Asher Pasco. Joining them were the AASI Team and the SPCES community, led by School Head Mrs. Jodelyn Labad. In her opening remarks, Mrs. Labad warmly welcomed the guests, highlighting the program’s significant impact in sparking students’ interest in maritime education, followed by a lively cultural dance performance that set an energetic tone for the event. Capt. Capayas shared motivational anecdotes from his seafaring career, inspiring students to consider maritime careers and the vast opportunities the industry offers. He also emphasized shipping’s crucial role in moving goods worldwide and its significance in everyday life. Meanwhile, Mr. Pasco expressed gratitude for the partnership with SDO San Pedro and commended the program for enriching students’ geographical knowledge while introducing them to maritime career possibilities. C/O Jeffrey Aldas provided an overview of the program’s implementation phases, followed by engaging activities, including paper boat-making and fun games that captivated the students. The event also featured a Q&A session, where students explored their curiosity about seafaring. Students received a 2x3-meter world map to track their adopted ship’s movements, enhancing their geographical awareness and understanding of global shipping routes. The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt message from Mr. Denis Portes, who expressed appreciation for the unwavering support of all participants. A group photo marked the successful launch, paving the way for students to embark on educational sessions designed to deepen their maritime knowledge and inspire future career aspirations.
