During the Shaping the Future of Shipping: Seafarer 2050 Summit on 26 June 2023 in Manila, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. advocated for a sustainable future for the shipping and seafaring industries, emphasizing the need for technological advancements, high-quality workforce, and stronger maritime policies. He acknowledged a student-crafted ship from Rosario Complex Elementary School, presented by IMO Goodwill Ambassador George Hoyt, symbolizing the impact of the Adopt a Ship program, which infuses maritime education into school curriculums. Ambassador Hoyt also presented other student-made ships to Ambassador Carlos C. Salinas, PTC founder, IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador, and Chairman Emeritus of the Filipino Shipowners Association (FSA), to VADM Eduardo Ma R Santos, President of the MARITIME ACADEMY OF ASIA AND THE PACIFIC (MAAP), and also to Ms. Marissa Oca, founder of the Gregorio Oca Leadership and Development Foundation, (GOLD Foundation). The recognition of these artworks underscores the importance of initiatives promoting maritime education and sustainable development in the industry.
