SAN PEDRO SCHOOLS DIVISION OFFICE PARTNERING WITH ADOPT A SHIP

Recognizing the significance of the educational benefits of this teaching tool and importance of maritime awareness, the SDO San Pedro, led by its Superintendent Mr. Rogelio Opulencia, officially endorses the Adopt A Ship program in all public elementary and high schools in its district. With the SDO formulating the school curriculum integration scheme, the implementation of the program at the secondary level was made easy, allowing approximately 36,900 students in San Pedro to participate in the program during the 2024 to 2025 school year. First introduced in March 2023 at Chrysanthemum Village Elementary School and Rosario Complex Elementary School, the AAS program achieved significant success and gained momentum with the support of the SDO, and was officially launched on October 11, 2023. During his visit to the SDO, IMO Ambassador Mr. George Hoyt addressed its members and professional educators, sharing insights into the program’s objectives and educational benefits for students. EPS Mr. Asher Pasco, believing the program will offer students a unique academic experience through the integration of maritime concepts, expressed gratitude for selecting SDO San Pedro as a division partner in the Laguna region. Mr. Hoyt also presented the SDO officials with an IMO pin for their commitment to academic excellence and sustainable development. On March 18, 2024, the expansion and integration of the AAS Program into the high school curriculum was solidified in the presence of Mr. George Hoyt, SDS Mr. Rogelio Opulencia, ASDS Mr. Philip Gallendez, and EPS Mr. Asher Pasco. Building upon its existing framework and proven effectiveness, it will replicate the successful integration scheme at the elementary level, now deepened with advanced subjects to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the maritime industry and its global significance. This collaboration emphasizes the value of partnerships dedicated to inspiring, educating, and empowering the younger generation in shaping the future of the maritime industry. On July 26, 2024, AASI San Pedro Team was introduced to SDO Superintendent Mr. Rogelio Opulencia, who was pleased to learn that the team members are local residents and graduates of San Pedro schools.
