Laguna Resettlement Community School held the closing of the Adopt a Ship program with a series of interactive and enriching activities, organized in collaboration with Anglo-Eastern on March 15, 2024. Esteemed delegates from Anglo-Eastern, led by President Mr. Jessie Rex Martin, attended the event, along with Capt. Consebido, one of the participating officers in the AAS program, and the AASI Team led by IMO Ambassador Mr. George Hoyt. The LRCS community, headed by School Head Ms. Rosalie Mabale, came together to mark this special occasion. The program began with a heartfelt welcome address from Ms. Mabale, who expressed deep gratitude for the Adopt a Ship program. Her words set a tone of appreciation and pride for the collaborative efforts that had brought the program to fruition at LRCS. Distinguished guest speakers then took the stage, each delivering insightful talks on the maritime industry, and conveying words of appreciation for all involved. Their words not only educated but also inspired, highlighting the significant impact of maritime careers and the vital role of education in this field. Mr. Hoyt took a moment to honor the teachers and school administrator with an IMO pin, recognizing their unwavering dedication to academic excellence and sustainable development. This gesture underscored the program’s commitment to fostering a culture of learning and growth within the school community.
As part of the closing ceremony, LRCS, in collaboration with Anglo-Eastern, organized a series of successful school activities, offering students a platform for immersive learning and fun. The excitement was palpable as Grade 4 students participated in a Tableau Contest, striking poses in creative costumes and props themed around maritime concepts. The creativity and enthusiasm they displayed were truly inspiring. Grade 5 students, dressed in marine uniforms, competed in a Declamation Contest, delivering compelling pieces about the lives of seafarers. Their performances were heartfelt and moving, reflecting a deep understanding of the subject matter. Grade 6 students showcased their skills in a digital art contest with maritime themes, their artworks judged by special guests. The creativity and technical skill on display were impressive, highlighting the students' dedication and talent. The event also included a series of group games, starting with a geography quiz as a qualifier. Other games included a photo challenge where participants guessed the word represented by four pictures, a WordHub game where they searched for maritime-related words in a letter grid, a spot-the-difference challenge between two similar photos, and a currency-matching game. The winners and participants were awarded certificates, generous cash prizes, free snacks, and giveaway tumblers provided by Anglo-Eastern. The Social Science teachers and the school administrator received certificates for their eff orts in facilitating the AAS program, recognizing their dedication and hard work. The special event concluded with a group photo, capturing the positive atmosphere and the genuine connections formed throughout the program. The transformative impact of the AAS program was evident, as it inspired, educated, and brought meaningful change to everyone involved. It was a day filled with pride, joy, and a shared commitment to continued growth and learning.
